What Does It Mean To Die Daily?

The Apostle said, "He died daily."  We know that the gospel of Jesus Christ continued to flourish under the leadership of Apostle Paul, so we know that he wasn't referring to a physical death, this would be impossible to carry out.   However, Paul was intentional about what he meant when he said, "He dies daily."

Paul was talking about dying daily to his sin nature. Paul explains this position with great clarity here in Romans Chapter 6...

He says,
"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Romans 6:11-12 KJV
So we see Paul is talking about taking control of our physical bodies, minds, motives and attitudes  and making them carry out the will of Jesus Christ no matter if they want to do His will or not.  Why is this? Good question.   If we are going to be like Jesus then we must die to our flesh.

However, the way that we die to our flesh is a daily process.  So Paul says, "I die daily." Paul was saying that everyday there is something new in my flesh that shows itself and I must eradicate it.  Paul was saying in order for me to please God then I must fight to put my body, mind, motives an attitude under the Holy Spirit of God daily.

Dying daily in any case will cost the Christian time and effort but the reward of gaining Jesus really out ways the suffering.
